Pantheon and Piazza della Rotonda: The Pantheon hasn’t
changed much in the past 2000 years. Despite the ages of plunder and the
transformation from a sort of temple into a church. The Pantheon, which
at first was a temple around the early Christian times, was a gift given
in the year 608 by to Emperor Phokas to the Pope. The Pope misunderstood
the name Pantheon and translated it conveniently with All Hallows, which
celebration he then donated in 609. In addition to that the Pope transported
28 lots of bones from antique gravesites to the Pantheon. He declared
those relics to holly of Christian martyrs, and since then the S. Maria
church had its new name S. Maria ad Martyres, which is today the S. Maria
Rotonda.
When looking for a hotel in Rome or any kind of accommodation such as
B&B's and apartments near the Pantheon you might find it difficult
to find a well-priced but good quality place to stay. However it is possible
to find a reasonably priced hotel in central Rome and at the same time
not to fall into the notorious tourist trap where the accommodation quality
does not match its price.
